Dorothea “Janer” Wilford (Hardy) | Obituary


Longtime Kent, Washington resident Dorothea “Jenner” Wilford (Hardy) passed away peacefully on August 20, 2022 at the age of 91 at a nursing home in Bremerton, Washington. Jenner was born in Palo Alto, California. Growing up in the Bay Area, she loved vacationing on the water and Lake Leonard, and was a master sailor. Janer graduated from Palo Alto High School and Stanford University with her Master of Education. In 1954, she married Edgar Wilford, a recent Harvard graduate. Janer became an elementary school teacher and later she became a social worker while her husband taught mathematics at the college level. When her family moved to Seattle to take up Edgar’s new position at Boeing, Janner began working as her director of outreach at St. James Episcopal Church in Kent, serving communities in need. She also volunteered at the Multi-faith Works and the St James Thrift Shop. Jenner was predeceased by spouse Edgar Wilford, parents Edgar Hardy and Dorothea Hardy, daughter Kathy Wilford, brother Edward Hardy, and sister Mary Ella Powell. brother Thor Hanson, children James (Sharon) Wilford, Lisa (Paul) Guidley, Wendy Wilford, Michael (Dedora) Wilford, Bill Wilford, and grandchildren JJ and Tara Wilford Leave Wilford behind.

A memorial service and celebration will be held for Janer at the St. James Episcopal Church, 24447 94th Ave S., Kent, Washington. Sunday, October 2, 1:00 p.m.
