PITTSBURGH – Ahead of the University of Pittsburgh women’s lacrosse team’s spring season, there are four new additions to the roster. Two transfers, Hannah Van Middelem and Camdyn O’Donnell, and two freshmen, Amelia Haywood and Lilly Comello, take the team to a total of 37 student-athletes.
Van Middelem is a graduate student from Mount Sinai, N.Y., joining the team as a goalie from Syracuse University. Over the course of her 26-game career there, she accrued 55 saves, a 0.387% save percentage and an 11.56 goals against average. In her final year at Syracuse, she helped defeat Fairfield in the NCAA Tournament First Round. In high school, she was a Two-Time Under Armour All-American and was named the Inside Lacrosse 2017 top incoming goalkeeper. Van Middelem received an undergraduate degree in professional accounting.
O’Donnell, a senior from Poway, California recently played at San Diego State University as an attacker. During her 2022 season, O’Donnell totaled 33 goals, along with 17 assists. She finished second on the team with 50 points and was able to set a school record with 14 shots in one game. O’Donnell finished third in San Diego State history with seven goals in a game against Marquette. She was named to the 2022 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
Lilly Comello is a freshman defender coming from St. John’s College High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. In her time there, she earned Lacrosse Academic All-American honors and also was named to the All-WCAC First Team and the All-Met First Team in field hockey.
Amelia Haywood, a freshman attacker, also hails from St. John’s College High School. Her and Comello were teammates and led their team to 3rd place in the Washington Catholic League during their senior seasons. Haywood earned WCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention in lacrosse while also being named to the First Team…
